Mira Estate Ovum Aureum 2021
Aromas of melon, Bosc pear, peaches and cream, brioche, and nutmeg are followed by a palate that is fruit-forward, round, consists of baked apple, quince and creamy marzapan. The finish is bright, long and refreshing. This is our first wine produced from our Ovum egg-shaped wooden fermenter, which has garnered added complexity and texture due to the natural oak and related features of this unique vessel.
Ovum is the world’s first egg-shaped barrel crafted from oak and represents a significant technical achievement for the cooperage industry. Developed by the team at Tonnellerie Taransaud, our primary supplier of French oak barrels, the egg-shaped Ovum barrel has become one of the most exciting and sought-after innovations for world’s most talented winemakers.
91 Points - James Suckling - "Aromas of ripe quinces, pineapple, toasted almond, toffee, lilies and lemon rind. Full-bodied, broad and viscous with plush, ripe tropical fruit. Dense and structured with lingering creaminess at the end. Drink or hold."
91 Points - The Wine Independent - "The 2021 Estate Ovum Aureum, 100% Sauvignon Gris, is a tad subdued to start, offering glimpses at notes of lime leaves, crushed rocks, and Granny Smith apples, plus hints of wet pebbles and dill seed. The full-bodied palate has a compelling oiliness to the texture and plenty of expressive apple and spice flavors, framed by a racy backbone, finishing on a lingering mineral note. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown"
