Vineyard Notes
The McGah Family’s Alsace Vineyard is widely regarded as one of the premier sources of Napa Valley grapes. Located in the Rutherford AVA, the soils from this upper bench are gravelly loam soils, both red and brown. The vineyard site provides an excellent combination of drainage and heat, coupled with cool evenings, all working together to result in uniform ripening and acidic balance. The site is just north of Oakville and borders the Silverado Trail. At the behest of Gonzalez, a small portion of this prized vineyard was replanted to Petit Verdot, the fruit that now produces our extremely limited Collectors Series 2012 Petit Verdot.
Vintage Notes
A very nice growing season filled with dry conditions and an extended sunny summer, 2013 delivered another excellent vintage. Optimal maturity arrived effortless but with a little higher acidity than normal. Nevertheless, the wines show great depth and personality.
Winemaker's Notes
Four day cold maceration followed by 11 days of fermentation. Daily pumpovers during active fermentation at 90°F. 24 days total vat time followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels (50% new).
