Mira Syrah Hyde Vineyard 2017

Mira Syrah Hyde Vineyard 2017

Full-bodied with a fruit-forward profile, Syrah is one of the darkest red wines. Mira’s Syrah reveals aromas of dark blackberry, currants, white pepper, gravel, and leather are followed by intense flavors of blackcurrants, cured meats (think charcuterie), pepper, and anise.

93 Points - The Wine Independent - "Deep garnet-purple in color, the single-varietal 2017 Syrah Hyde Vineyard gives up notes of stewed black plums and boysenberry preserves with an undercurrent of cracked black pepper, salami, and underbrush. The full-bodied palate bursts with rich black fruits, supported by plush tannins and compelling tension, finishing long and peppery. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown"

92 Points - James Suckling - "Aromas of fresh blueberry, blackberry and black pepper. Medium-to full-bodied with silky tannins. Earthy spice drives the palate, with coffee and chocolate character. Rich texture. Good intensity. Drink or hold. — JS"

Tasting Notes
Red fruit compote, bakers chocolate and noticeable acidity end in a persistent medley of cacao seed with a hint of caramel and chocolate covered dates.
Vineyard Notes
Located in the Los Carneros AVA in Napa Valley, Hyde Vineyard’s East facing slopes provide ideal sun exposure when paired with the cool coastal winds that blow from San Pablo Bay through Carneros. Considered one of the superstar vineyards of the Napa Valley, the grapes from this location are perfect for crafting our single vineyard Syrah.
Vintage Notes
2015 is the vintage in which drought was on everyone’s mind. Rainfall the previous vintages was minimal at best and 2015 was very dry for most of the State. However, thanks to some early season rains, Napa Valley received 75% of normal rainfall. Thanks to cool temperatures during the growing season the demand for water was kept to a minimum. These cool temperatures also contributed to uneven fruit set which resulted in much lower than average yields. Sugar accumulation was also slightly ahead of flavor development and so we harvested most varieties with more sugar than in the previous vintages. Small vintages typically result in more concentrated wines and 2015 is no exception. We just have much less of it in 2015.
Winemaker's Notes
Clone 877, five day cold maceration followed by 10 days of fermentation. Daily delesatage in addition to pumpovers during active fermentation at 88°F. 22 days total vat time followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels (5% new, 95% 10 year old).
Food Pairing Notes
Braised Beef Shank w/ Pappardelle, Grilled Leg of Lamb, Carolina Pulled Pork, Soft Pungent Cheeses
