Mira Syrah Hyde Vineyard 2016

Mira Syrah Hyde Vineyard 2016

Full-bodied with a fruit-forward profile, Syrah is one of the darkest red wines. Mira’s Syrah reveals aromas of blueberry, fresh pepper and meat, boasting a bright and youthful expression. Its robust structure and broad finish permit the wine to be at its best for years to come. Total production of only 215 cases.

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast - "Bursting in garrigue and sanguine, meaty game, this wine dazzles in black olive, dried herb and brambly blackberry. Firm supple tannins provide a foundation of structure and power, with the wine presenting as relatively light on its feet despite its inherent ripeness."

91 Points - James Suckling - "Aromas of plums, blueberries, dried herbs and smoked meat, as well as some balsamic and cigar box. It’s medium-bodied with sleek tannins. Soft structure with a smoky, savory and flavorful finish."

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Classic characteristics like blueberry and fig arrive in waves on the palate followed closely by cooked red fruits and bitter chocolate. A rich and full finish presents flavors of roasted wild game and subtle notes of white pepper that linger on the palate.
Vineyard Notes
Located in the Los Carneros AVA in Napa Valley, Hyde Vineyard’s East facing slopes provide ideal sun exposure when paired with the cool coastal winds that blow from San Pablo Bay through Carneros. Considered one of the superstar vineyards of the Napa Valley, the grapes from this location are perfect for crafting our single vineyard Syrah.
Vintage Notes
2016 saw another nearly perfect vintage in the Napa Valley. Winter precipitation afforded relief from drought concerns but a very nice Spring and mild Summer brought slightly less than average yields, smaller clusters and more concentration in the fruit. Mid October brought substantial rains to the region, the first in quite some years, however we were fortunate to already have all of our grapes in.
Winemaker's Notes
Clone 877, four day cold maceration followed by 12 days of fermentation. Daily delesatage in addition to pumpovers during active fermentation at 90°F. 27 days total vat time followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels (5% new, 95% 10 year old).
Food Pairing Notes
Braised Beef Shank w/ Pappardelle, Grilled Leg of Lamb, Carolina Pulled Pork, Soft Pungent Cheeses
